Dr. Phelan Thomas
Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry and has been in private practice for twenty-three years. He has participated in numerous advanced dental courses and seminars over the years including graduating from the Postgraduate Course in Esthetic Dentistry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.

Dr. Thomas is the first African American dentist in the United States and abroad to have achieved Accreditation status by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is one of only two dentists in the entire state of Iowa Accredited by the AACD. Accreditation is considered to be the highest level of competence in cosmetic dentistry. Accreditation is a rigorous process. Actual cases performed by Dr. Thomas ranging from exquisite bridgework to porcelain veneers, were examined by Accredited academy peers for excellence in every phase of cosmetic dentistry. This long and arduous process must be completed within a three year time span after the clinician passes an extensive writen examination. Less than four hundred of the more than 8,000 members of the academy have achieved the prestigious Accreditation credential that Dr. Thomas now proudly possesses.

He is also a Diplomat of the American Board of Esthetic Dentistry. To receive this honor Dr. Thomas had to submit patient cases before a panel of peers for review, and pass a five hundred question written exam.

Dr. Thomas is also a member in good standing of The Academy of General Dentistry.

In the past Dr. Thomas has been asked to share his expertise by presenting seminars to his peers in the dental field. He is currently working on a new seminar that involves the topics of smile design and the use of photography in the dental office.

Dr. Thomas is in the process of writing a book for the general public dealing with nutrition and dentistry, and patenting a system for dentists to use to organize multiple restorations during treatment.

Dr. Thomas enjoys staying active in his spare time and participates in triathlons, 5 K runs and masters swimming competitions. He also enjoys writing and gardening.
