I had recently whitened my teeth and was very happy with them. Then, I got in an accident and damaged some teeth. I’d like to get veneers to make them look good. I’ve heard that MAC veneers are the current best brand and that they don’t require as much damage to your teeth to place them. Is this accurate?

Dear Jessica,
So, picking the brand of porcelain veneers is not the best way to go. It’s like commissioning a painting but looking for the best brand of paint instead of the best artist. The best thing you can do is focus on getting an expert cosmetic dentist. He or she will go over what look you are wanting for your smile makeover. They will know the qualities of each and every brand and will be able to tell which ones are able to achieve the results you want. The other benefit to a great cosmetic dentist is they will know which lab and ceramist will give you the right results. So where do you find this magical dentist?
Something to be aware of is that cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized specialty. To make matters worse, doing smile makeovers is not taught in dental school. If a dentist wants to learn how to create beautiful smile makeovers then they have to invest in post-doctoral training. It takes years to develop the technical skill and artistry necessary to do this well, just as it takes an artist years to develop their talent.
The safest way for you to find the right cosmetic dentist to both do your porcelain veneers and know which brand will be the best, is to find a dentist who has attained accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. AACD accredited dentists have passed stringent exams and demonstrated their artistry to a board of examiners for a large number of cases.
If you want a gorgeous smile, find an AACD accredited dentist. Even if there isn’t one in your area, it would be worth it to drive to a nearby city.
