I have been saving up for quite some time to finally get eight veneers placed on my upper front teeth. I couldn’t wait to flash my new “Hollywood” smile, but all I want to do now is hide. All I see when I look in the mirror are big, bulky teeth that look too white. They look totally fake. My dentist says that I’ll get used to them. I don’t want to get used to looking like Mr. Ed… what do I do? — Erica
Erica,
I’m so sorry that your veneers did not turn out how you expected. Veneers take a lot of time and money… and they are definitely something that should make you smile when they are finished. Do you know if your dentist used no-prep veneers or if he didn’t remove very much tooth structure when he prepped your teeth? Either one could make your veneers look and feel bulky. Unfortunately, many people don’t figure out until after they are unhappy with their results that placing veneers is an art, and that not just any dentist can do them. A good cosmetic dentist will use both his artistic eye and a high-end lab and materials to ensure a beautiful result. It’s so important to do your homework when choosing the right dentist for the job. Talk to your dentist and see if he can correct the things that you don’t like. If he truly wants to make you happy, he will do whatever he can to make it right.
