I’m getting a smile makeover but am having doubts about the dentist I chose. His mane is Dr. —— [Name redacted] He wants to do CEREC veneers and plans on them being 5 mm. I’ve done some research and that seems thick to me. My sister-in-law suggested I contact you because you’re known for good smile makeovers. Is that too thick?
Lisa
Dear Lisa,
I’m glad you wrote. The material and thickness of the porcelain veneers aren’t the most important part of a smile makeover. It is the skill and artistry of the cosmetic dentist which makes the biggest difference in the outcome of a smile makeover.
I did some research on your dentist. What I found (or more explicitely what I didn’t find) concerns me. He doesn’t have a website. That’s a big concern with a supposed cosmetic dentist. They’d want their smile gallery online so people could see the type of results they get.
Many people don’t realize that smile makeovers aren’t taught in dental school. A dentist has to invest in post-doctoral training from reputible institutions in order to get the training they need.
I looked for his name among the alumni of those institutions and couldn’t find them. This makes me wonder about his cosmetic training.
While a great cosmetic dentist could give you a beautiful smile using CEREC veneers, it is harder than if he used a gifted ceramist. He may be doing it just to save money.
Finding the Best Cosmetic Dentist
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) realized the predicament patients found themselves in trying to find a good cosmetic dentist. Because of that they begain an accreditation program.
If a dentist wants to get accredited they have to pass stringent oral and written exams demonstrating their technical knowledge in the cosmetic field. Additionally, they have to provide visiual evidence of a large and specific number of cases they’ve done in order to demonstrate their artistry.
If you want the best dentist to do your smile makeover, you want an AACD accredited dentist. Then you can be confident you’ll get the smile of your dreams.
